Sandra Smirle is a Toronto artist who studied graphic design at Humber College and experimental design at Concordia University. Her work has been shown in various venues in North America and Europe. Sandra’s work for our 2006 season will be a specific response to the planned route of the suitcase tour through the UK. Consisting of sewn together maps and text, the work will function both as a route plan and a souvenir. It will emphasize how narratives of lineage are both ‘timeless’ and constantly embodied in specific historical moments, and the impossibility of tracing the past as the ‘origin’ of the present.
