Haruko Okano was born in Toronto and lives in Vancouver. She has attended various educational institutions including Simon Fraser University, and has had solo and group exhibitions throughout Canada. For the McCleave tour she will create four small accordion-style books that combine text with drawings influenced by edo-period block prints and Japanese animation. The pieces will explore transformations in language and culture in successive generations of Japanese Canadian community.
